COME SEE FOR YOURSELF

Harrison County is rich in history.  We were settled by early pioneers, of good and hardy stock.  This year our Village of Freeport will celebrate its bicentennial with several different events beginning in March and ending in September.  If you want to get a flavor our County, plan on attending one of these.  At a minimum, come take a drive over our lush rolling hills and along our scenic breathtaking lakes.  I think you will like what you see.

                FUN FACTS

Did you know...

A mastodon tooth was found near Cadiz in 1874?

In 1878, 900,000 pounds of wool were purchased in Harrison County?

We have our own version of "Big Foot" called a Jimhinker; a mysterious animal, never seen, only heard.  No recent sightings.

Harrison County has more than 4200 acres of lakes?

We have a sixteen-sided barn - one of only three in America.  Near Freeport.  Built in 1921.

Cadiz was the site of "the greatest bank robbery west of the Ohio River" in 1866.  About $25,000,000 in today's currency.

Credit for these tantalizing tidbits goes to our Harrison County, Ohio, Historical Society.

The Cadiz/Harrison County Visitors Center was the brain child of an ambitious group of citizens who recognized the need for an organized promotion of the areas many tourism attractions.  As a result, the Cadiz/Harrison County Visitors Bureau was formed and the task of building a centralized tourism center was undertaken.  The Center was completed and opened on a volunteer basis in 2003.  An Executive Director was hired in 2006 and a county-wide outreach effort has been underway to promote all that Harrison County has to share.

The Visitors Bureau is incorporated and overseen by a Board of Directors who represent the organizations and attractions in Harrison County.

The main source of funding for the center is received from the Village of Cadiz.  The center also receives a portion of the bed tax funding.
